Where it started
Courage began in 2016 in a cold unit on an industrial estate, with a single squat rack, a car-boot set of plates and eleven people who kept turning up. There was no sign on the door. People found it because someone told them about it.
What grew from that wasn't a gym chain. It was a group of people who wanted the same thing in four different shapes: coaching for the ones rebuilding themselves, kit that holds up to real training, a football club for the lads and lasses who'd aged out of everywhere else, and a community arm for the people who could never have afforded the door fee.
Courage isn't the absence of fear. It's turning up anyway.

How it works
We talk, you move, we find out what hurts and what you want. No sales pitch at the end.
A written programme built around your week, your injuries and the equipment you can actually reach.
You turn up, we adjust, it gets heavier. Reviewed properly every six weeks.
Your coach
Level 4 coach, twelve years on the gym floor, and the person who put the first rack in the unit in 2016. Danny specialises in getting people back to lifting after long breaks — post-injury, post-baby, post-everything.
Level 4 Advanced PT · GP Referral · Strength & Conditioning · First aid
From members
"I'd not trained in nine years and I was terrified of the free weights area. Six months later I'm deadlifting more than my body weight and I don't think about it."
Rachel M · 14 months"Danny worked around night shifts without once making me feel like the problem. That's the whole reason I stuck at it."
Tom B · 2 years"Came in for rehab on my shoulder. Stayed because the small group is the best hour of my week."
Priya S · 8 monthsBook an hour, see if it fits. If it doesn't, you've lost nothing but a Tuesday.

See where it goes →Courage CIC · Community Interest Company
We run free and low-cost training, football and mentoring for young people and adults across the borough — funded by the rest of the Courage group, so every pound raised goes to places on programmes.
What we run
Two evenings a week of coached training and food for young people referred by schools and youth services. No kit needed — we provide it.
A twelve-week supported route back into exercise for adults referred by GPs and mental health teams. Small groups, same coaches throughout.
We pay for Level 2 and 3 coaching qualifications for young people from the programmes, then hire them. Nine have gone through it so far.
